Scientists have used artificial intelligence to make a major breakthrough in fighting prostate cancer. A study funded by Cancer Research UK has identified two subtypes of prostate cancer by using AI to analyse DNA data. This discovery could revolutionise diagnosis and treatment by suggesting therapies based on genetic testing, also facilitated by AI. Prostate cancer affects one in eight men during their lifetime. This breakthrough is therefore critical to saving lives and improving outcomes. The study, led by the Pan Prostate Cancer Group, was a multi-institutional collaboration. It not only improves the treatment of prostate cancer, but also opens up potential applications for other cancers. "These results could mark the beginning of the application to prostate cancer of the 'divide and conquer' approach that has worked for other diseases such as breast cancer," said Dr. Naomi Elster, Research Director at Prostate Cancer Research.
